The level of your academic success is based on the value of your grade point average (GPA) at the end of a semester and at the end of every academic session. So, there is every need for each student to know his level of academic success by computing his GPA or CGPA (cumulative grade point average) up to date. Here is how to compute your GPA per semester and CGPA per session to enable your know your academic success.

First, you should know the credit load (weight) of each of your courses for the semester and for the session.  Next, you should know the points attached to a grade in a course. Then, you calculate the total points for a course by multiplying the points attached to a grade in a course by the credit load of the course. For example, if the credit load of a course is 2 and you score a grade whose point is 4, then the total points you have for that course is 8 (that is, 2 x 4 = 8).

After computing the total points for each course, you then add together the total points of all the courses for a semester or for a session. You also sum up the total credit loads of all the courses for the semester or session. Divide the total points of the courses for the semester or session by the total credit loads for the semester or session. The result is your GPA for the semester or CGPA for the academic session.

In universities, especially new-generation universities, the following are the course grades and points attached to them:-

A => 5 points, B => 4 points, C => 3 points, D => 2 points, E => 1 point, and F => no point.

Let’s assume that in the first semester, you offered 3 courses and your grades are as follows:

GST101, 2 credits, score  B (4 points)

CSC201, 3 credits, score A (5 points)

MAT203, 2 credits, score C (3 points)

Then, GPA for the first semester will be calculated thus:

GST101, total points = 2 x 4 = 8

CSC201, total points = 3 x 5 = 15

MAT203, total points = 2 x 3 = 6

Total points for the semester = 8 + 15 + 6 = 29.

Total credit loads for the semester = 2 + 3 + 2 = 7.

First semester GPA = 29 / 7 = 4.143.

Let’s assume that in second semester, you offered the following 4  courses;

GST102, 1 credits, score  A (5 points)

CSC202, 2 credits, score A (5 points)

MAT204, 2 credits, score E (1 point)

CSC242, 4 credits, score D (2 points)

Then, GPA for the second semester will be calculated as follows:

GST102, total points = 1 x 5 = 5

CSC202, total points = 2 x 5 = 10

MAT204, total points = 2 x 1 = 2

CSC242, total points = 4 x 2 = 8

Total points for the semester = 5 + 10 + 2 + 8 = 25.

Total credit loads for the semester = 1 + 2 + 2 + 4 = 9.

Second semester GPA = 25 / 9 = 2.778.

Then, for the academic session (first semester and second semester), the total points = 29 + 25 = 54, and the total credit loads = 7 + 9 = 16.

Session CGPA = 54 / 16 = 3.375.

That is all for it. Very simple. Try it to know your level of academic success per semester and per session.

Note: Some university use different grading system, but the GPA and CGPA computations are basically the same.

When you start your search early, you will not just be able to find the best scholarships; also, you will be able to apply for more scholarships, which will give you more chance of winning or more of them.

Be careful in reading the requirements. Remember, out of the large numbers of the scholarship, only a few of it will suit to your qualification. So, read carefully the qualifications set for the scholarships that you are applying for. And if they do not fit to your qualification, try looking for another one.

Complete the requirements. Just when you start for the application, you must have readied the requirements already. It is not advisable that you will wait for your sponsor to ask you for it before you arrange it.

Most of all, submit your application early, and anticipate that you will be considered as one of the scholars of the sponsor.

For there are several college students that need some help in order to continue their studies, there are college scholarship grants given to those who are in need or with special talent on a certain field.

There are 3 common types of scholarships grants awarded to college students and soon-to-be college students: athletic scholarship grant, academic scholarship grant, and departmental awards. Each has its criteria to consider before awarding the grant. Each also has a particular group of student to target.

Academic Scholarship Grant

This type of scholarship grant is awarded to students who achieve a qualified GPA or has achieved an exceptional academic performance before entering college. This grant is usually awarded to students who have received honors. It is sometimes awarded automatically upon entering college or university but most schools require application for academic scholarship grants.

Basically, the primary focus of schools giving academic scholarship is of course the academic aspect; however, some colleges and universities base the grant on either merit or need, or both.

Upon passing an academic scholarship grant, the student is required to maintain a ceiling grade. If not achieved after the end of the term, colleges and universities usually put the student on probationary status until the grades reached the prescribed level. If not achieved however, the academic scholarship grand may be terminated.

Athletic Scholarship Grant

If you are on the competitive edge, you get an athletic scholarship grant. However, this is highly sought after type of scholarship and there are many students applying for this.

An athlete of course wants to go through college for free using this type of scholarship. Some even dream to finish college as an athlete. And this dream is not far from the realizing. With good personal marketing and exceptional skill in any sport, you will be able to apply and be granted with this type of scholarship.

Departmental Awards

This type of scholarship grant aims to provide the student with the option to stay or take up his or her studies on a particular department. Usually, it is offered to exceptional students with desire to take other fields. The departmental awards are given so as not to keep the students in the department. Or, it is given to attract interested students to take study at a particular department.

You can inquire about this type of scholarship directly on the department of the school.

There are other college scholarship grants that are given to students but basically, these three are the ones given by the schools themselves.

There are millions of very successful people that did not make the honor roll in high school. Many of us were average students but that won’t stop you from getting scholarships to help you go to college. Even if you are a mom that has been out of school for a long time and maybe are worried about your potential GPA, scholarships are available for you as well!

Many people think scholarships are only for those that did exceptionally well in high school. This could not be further from the truth! Albeit there are scholarships awarded based upon merit (exceptional grades) but there are thousands of other scholarships that do not have that requirement!

Basically scholarships are free money that you can use to pay for your education. They never have to be paid back like a student loan does! There are a few ways you can get a scholarship for your educational needs.

Federal scholarships and grants are given by the government to people that are low income. If you qualify, it will be easy for you to obtain one of these scholarships and get back to school!

The other way for moms to get scholarships is to win them! There are thousands of general scholarships available online right now! All you have to do is register and you could win the money you need for school. Some of these are specifically designed for moms!

Regardless of your situation, you too can get a scholarship to pay for school. In order to increase your chances you should apply/register for every scholarship you can find! The more scholarships you register for, the better your chances of having enough money to complete your degree! There are few exceptions, but typically you can use more than one scholarship at a time, and sometimes you can even use a portion of the money to assist with family expenses!
