The Basics of Persuasive Essay Writing
An essay written in order to make people agree with your ideas and views is called a “persuasive essay”. So, the first step in this process is to actually identify the point of view that you wish to put across and make the reader understand and agree with that specific point of view.
The next phase is identifying the actual audience that you are communicating with. To write an effective persuasive essay you really need to identify what makes your audience tick and whether they are undecided about the issues that you are putting forward.
Your audience may sometimes be totally unreceptive to your points and ideas and only by understanding their mind-set can you hope to formulate any supporting arguments for your persuasion. To demonstrate your case you may use various forms of evidence that can be extrapolated and forwarded in styles such as
• records,
• incidents,
• examples,
• quotations
Identifying your opponents viewpoint, clarifying the various issues and then opposing them will reinforce your influence on the subject. The success of your persuasive essay really depends on your preparation and presentation of the article
The introduction must be punchy to capture the reader’s attention whilst at the same time detailing all relevant background information for the topics at hand. Your main thrust or point of view should be a clear declaration before this paragraphs end and then all following paragraphs should identify those points supporting your main argument with only one relevant point presented in each paragraph. Don’t forget that each of these relevant points contained in each paragraph should be supported by ample proof.
You then need to finish up by presenting your supporting points whilst at the same time refuting the opposition’s views thus showing the reader your knowledge of the subject
In the conclusion you must creatively restate the main thrust of your argument alone with all supporting points leaving your reader totally at one with your argument and persuaded by your written reasoning
